Moira Pottery Works: A Brief Overview Founded in 1922, Moira Pottery Works was renowned for its utilitarian stoneware, including marmalade crocks and affordable pitchers and kitchen wares. Some pieces featured transfer-printed advertising with charming, turn-of-the-century woodcut designs. Moira's "Hillstonia" ware was designed for forcing bulbs and housing plants. The pottery often bore an oval stamp on the unglazed undersides of its pieces. The company's diverse range included garden ornaments and Vitryware oven-to-table casseroles. Located about 5 miles from Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Moira Pottery was actually in the village of Moira, just over the Leicestershire border. The pottery works ceased operations in December 1991.
