About the Item
A large and impressive Dutch Delft jar of octagonal shape with fluted sides, mark for Johannes Van Duijn, De Porceleyne Schotel Factory, 1764 - 1773, Delft, Holland, the Netherlands.
The tall earthenware jar or vase of octagonal ovoid form, the eight sides all with fluted surfaces painted in blue and white tin glazed enamels. Decorated in the Chinoiserie taste, the fluted sides with alternating panels of large flower baskets, leafy vines, and floral blooms, all framed by dense borders of bold floral and vegetal scrolls.
The jar is set on a short splayed foot and topped by a short neck. The neck decorated with Chinoiserie ruyi shaped lapettes. The foot decorated with scrolling vines and flowers. Both the foot and neck conforming to the shape of the jar.
Marked to the underside JVDuijn (IVDuyn) for Johannes van Duijn, owner of De Porceleyne Schotel Factory from 1764 to 1773.
