About the Item

Decorate a buffet or console with this elegant set of majolica cache pots with matching jardiniere. Crafted in France circa 1880, each antique planter is dressed with acanthus leaf form handles, and features a scalloped base as well as a scalloped rim at the top. Each colorful faience piece is decorated with hand painted hunt motifs in high relief, featuring hunting dogs holding a bird in the mouth in the manner of Jules Moigniez. The set of barbotine vases is in excellent condition and adorn soft and pastel colors in the pale blue and beige palette. Markings on the undersides with number 413 for further authentication. A wonderful addition for a ranch, hunting lodge! Jules Moigniez (1835-1894) was a French animalier (animal) sculptor who was active during the 19th century. His output was primarily cast in bronze and he frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. He was best known for his bronzes depicting birds, although his skill and versatility enabled him to produce quality horse sculptures (primarily racehorses), dog sculptures and hunting scenes. His dog and bird sculptures were among the finest ever created during his time. Jardiniere: 16"W x 10"D x 8.5"H Cache pot: 11.5"W x 9.5"D x 9"H
