This is an antique jardinière on stand. An English, ceramic decorative planter with ornamental column, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1880. Rich in colour and with classical and Renaissance overtones Displaying a desirable aged patina - one fine firing crack to rim observed under close inspection White ceramic base with light blue wash beneath a quality glaze Gilt flourishes to the rim and handles add an attractive contrast Of bulb form, the serpentine foliate rim sits above the generously sized planter Bouquets of detailed flowers adorn the fascia in a palette of pink hues Ornate handles with scrolling forms terminate in expressive leaf motif Mark to base reads 'Athens' likely the pattern mark of Davenport, Staffordshire Attractive column stand with classical taste offers a surface diameter of 25cm (9.75") Continuing the decor of the planter, the column decorated with chased leaf patterns and gilt touches Presenting a tapering profile with deeply reeded form Standing upon a square base with shaped plinth edge and canted corners This is a highly decorative antique jardinière on stand, with rich colour and overt classical taste.
