About the Item
George III sterling silver covered urn. Made by George Fenwick in Edinburgh in 1808. Ovoid bowl on raised foot; leaf-mounted scroll bracket handles. Cover double-domed with acorn finial. Chased rinceaux and acanthus leaf bands. Gilt interior. Modish Classicism from the “Athens of the North”, as Edinburgh was called back then. Fully marked. Weight: 34 troy ounces.
