About the Item

A charming 19th-century French confit pot from the Provence region, beautifully worn with time and use. Crafted circa 1880, this rustic earthenware vessel was originally used for preserving duck or goose in rendered fat, an age-old method known as confire. The pot features its characteristic thick yellow glaze covering the upper half, which protected the contents from moisture and light. The lower half remains unglazed, designed for the partial burial in cool ground to regulate temperature in the days before refrigeration. Twin loop handles allow easy lifting, and the interior reveals traces of its utilitarian past. Its surface bears a gorgeous natural patina of crackled glaze, weathered chips, and earthy tones, marking it as authentic and evoking the spirit of provincial life. A charming decorative object today, perfect as a sculptural piece, kitchen accent, or planter!
