About the Item
This handcrafted sculptural vessel sculpture , part of the 'Volcanic Vessels' series, is a solid, full-bodied piece. Though it echoes the form of a vessel, it is entirely closed, serving as a purely artistic statement rather than a functional object. Created by the artist using a labor-intensive Scagliola technique in a unique way , the surface is built up section by section with multi-pigmented composites , gradually shaped, sanded, filled, and polished. This process results in a striking interplay of smooth and textured areas, like an abstract painting brought to life in three-dimensional form. The organic, rugged quality of the vessel is reminiscent of volcanic rock, while the refined finishes lend it an alchemical, almost magical transformation.
With rich colour variations and organic, volcanic-inspired form, this sculpture vessel stands powerfully on a plinth as a striking solo artwork or can be elegantly incorporated into curated collection of assemblage on a table or a unit.
