Vase en cristal noir Tortue Black Collection, Lalique, France, 21ème siècle Signature et numérotation gravées : exemplaire no. 320/999 Le vase dénommé Tortue de la Black Collection, manufacture Lalique, a été réalisé en France en 999 tirages dont le présent est le 320. En cristal soufflé avec un décor abstrait est en bon état de conservation. Le dessinateur, verrier et orfèvre français René Jules Lalique (Ay, 6 avril 1860 - Paris, 1er mai 1945) étudia dans l’atelier du bijoutier Louis Aucoc et au Sydenham Art College de Londres. À Paris, il commence à dessiner des bijoux pour des maisons de renom comme Aucoc, Cartier, Hamelin, Boucheron. Particulièrement impressionné par l’art japonais contemporain, il fut pour lui l’une des sources d’inspiration les plus importantes. À partir des pierres de verre, il a commencé à créer des objets particuliers comme les flacons de parfum, jusqu’alors conçus comme des récipients anonymes et, par la suite, comme des emblèmes d’un luxe accessible à un nombre croissant de personnes. Simultanément, Lalique réalisait des pièces uniques sur commande. La consécration internationale arriva en 1900 à l’Exposition universelle, où fut exposé, entre autres, un bijou en forme de libellule, commandé par le magnat Calouste Gulbenkian et porté par Sarah Bernhardt, ce qui décréta un succès immédiat. Après la Grande Guerre, le public semblait avoir perdu tout intérêt pour les objets colorés et fantaisistes qui avaient déterminé le succès de Lalique. Il décide de se reconvertir aux lignes néoclassiques et géométriques de l’art déco, en cherchant à introduire le concept de luxe dans les objets du quotidien. Son activité s’est arrêtée pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et s’est terminée par sa mort en 1945. Son fils Marc la reprend en 1946 et en 2000, l’entrepreneur suisse Silvio Denz acquiert la propriété de la verrerie Lalique à Wingen-sur-Moder en étendant la marque Lalique à d’autres catégories de produits, dont les parfums, les bijoux, objets d’ameublement et objets d’art réalisés en collaboration avec des artistes.
