About the Item

Rare mid-century modernist art glass vase was created by Bengt Orup for Johansfors Glasbruk, Sweden, in 1960s as a part of Spontana line. It is decorated with swirling, organic shapes in solid cobalt blue, light blue, and beige within finely speckled, heavy glass body. Microbubbles and fine particles add blue tint and subtle glow to clear glass. Bengt Orup (1916-1996) was on the leading glass designers in 20th century. He never made a clear distinction between works of art and objects of use, and his work with Johansfors Glassworks in 1950-1970 resulted in many well-known, iconic pieces. He is represented in Swedish National Museum of Art and Design and Victoria and Albert Museum, among other museums and institutions. The vase is signed Johansfors Orup on the bottom and has original Johansfors Sweden sticker attached on the side. The vase measures 7.5" in diameter and 4" high. The vase is in excellent vintage condition.

Robert Held Art Glass Bud Vase Organic Modern Green Blue Iridescent
By Robert Held
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Vintage bud vase with green-blue iridescent freeform design on clear, slightly iridescent background was made by Robert Held in Canada. Artistically simple with minimal color palette, the vase is individually hand crafted, and therefore unique, as no two pieces in the series will be exactly the same. The vase is in good vintage condition with a few small surface scratches that do not detract from the overall beauty of the piece. It is signed with etched "R. Held Art Glass" at the base. Robert Held Art Glass is one of the best-known art glass studios in Canada. Held created Canada's first glassblowing program at the Sheridan College School of Design in 1969. He left his teaching career in 1977 for a management position at Canadian Art Glass...
