French Art Nouveau Signed Désiré Christian Cameo Glass Vase, circa 1896
About the Item
Extraordinary cameo, hot applied and wheel carved vase by Désiré Christian c1896 in greens and yellows depicting water lilies with applied blue tear drops and carved flower heads. Signed for the 'Christian, bother and son' company (c1895-1900) -just visible in last image and additionally signed for the famous Amsterdam retailer Focke & Meltzer-image 8). Emile Galle chose Christian to make much of his earlier glass as his own French Workshops were unable to make the necessary quality glass, whereas Christian could. Unusually this vase was made by Christian for his own company and to be sold to the Amsterdam retailer.
