About the Item

Gustave Asch Large Vase Ceramic Blue Tours, 1900 Frédéric Gustave Asch (1856-1911) A nice shaped vases in Porcelain with gold decoration of berries branches and berries in their bogue, on a "bleu de Tours" background. The motif covering the neck and body of each vase is typical of the Art Nouveau decorations of the ceramist Frédéric Gustave Asch (1856-1911). Active towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Asch is notably known for his "bleu de Tours", a dark blue enamel close to the famous "bleu de Sèvres". In his workshops in Tours, he made vases in enamelled Tours blue ceramic, which he decorated in gold with delicate naturalistic motifs, including the branches of chestnut trees. Our vase bear the mark "France" under the base and the small axe for Gustave Asch. One of them is numbered "46". The fact of finding Frédéric Gustave ASCH as "technical director" at the Faïencerie Héraldique de Pierrefonds in 1906*, gave me the idea of retracing his career as a renowned decorator and ceramist. The Touraine authors, although they speak little, and not in detail, of the decoration workshops of Frédéric Gustave ASCH, also called regionally "Guasch" because of his first signature G. ASCH or "Axe" because of its mark in the form of "Bardiche", agree to say that it was in 1882 that "he comes from Limoges" *, others that it was in 1883 that he set up his first decoration workshop, quai SaintSymphorien, and a store, 20 rue du Commerce in Tours. Between 1889 and 1890, Gustave ASCH developed "Bleu de Tours", a dark blue enamel similar to "Sèvres blue", as well as "empire green" and "peacock blue".
