About the Item

A stunning collection of three Scandinavian uranium glass 'Aurinkopullo' (or Sun Bottle) decorative vases. Made by Riihimaki (also known as Riihimaen Lasi Oy) of Finland from 1964-1974 and designed by Helena Tynell in 1963. This is perhaps Tynell's most famous design - the circular, concave bottle that features a small circle in the center, the sun, from which beams radiate in a textured pattern. This collection consists of 3 of the 4 sizes the vase was produced in. Each vase was hand mold blown. The use of uranium to color the glass causes these vases to glow bright green in UV light. Helena Tynell is one of the most notable Finnish glass designers of the 20th century. Her cheerful, tactile designs from the 1960s are enduring, instantly recognizable, and highly collectible. vase 1 - 4.7"x3.75"x1.75" vase 2 -6.7" vase 3 - 9.1".

Using expert glazing and firing techniques, the artisans at Poterie Goicoechea are able to achieve a dazzling array of lacquered finishes such as this dazzling apple green tube vase...
