About the Item

A beautiful and most decorative Italian 19th century Majolica porcelain centerpiece. The oblong shaped centerpiece is raised by lovely scalloped movements at the base with most decorative scrolled foliate designs and a lovely mottled wrap around band at the socle shaped pedestal. The body displays a striking wonderfully executed central reserve of a handsome man, likely Apollo, in a chariot pulled by horses on one side and a beautiful scene of personages by the water taking fishing nets out of their boats each framed within a fine mottled border. Exceptional scrolled foliate designs with mythological creatures extend throughout leading to most decorative scrolled winged maidens at each side centering the lightly curved neck with lovely additional scrolled foliate designs, charming scenes and a central satyr mask.
