About the Item

Submerged, satin and milled Murano glass designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa. Number 28 of 99 I Molati series. Made by VEART MADE IN ITALY Signature engraved at the tip VEART/Venezia 28-99 Original label. Biography Afra Bianchin (Montebelluna, 1937 - Treviso, 2011) Tobia Scarpa (Venice, 1935) Afra Bianchin and her husband Tobia Scarpa (son of the famous architect Carlo) are among the most important Italian designers of the '900, who began to collaborate during the course of furniture Franco Albini, with the design of the small chair Pigreco. Graduated from IUAV in Venice in 1969, they collaborated in many projects, especially in the field of furniture, becoming exponents of an architecture refined and elegant in shapes and materials. They participated in the 1960 foundation of the company Flos, creating new lamps for this. They had important commissions (Cassina, Fabian, Gavina, Stildomus) for the production of furniture, armchairs and sofas, including Coronado armchairs, using polyurethane. In 1970 they won the Compasso d'Oro and established a collaboration with the company Benetton, together with which they made the Paderno knitting factory (1964), the Castrette plant in Villorba, the restoration of Villa Spineda in Venegazzù and many sales outlets. Scarpa has also undertaken many restorations in Veneto, combining innovative solutions with traditional construction techniques.
