About the Item
This is an old Japanese crucible, believed to have been used during the Meiji to Taisho period (1860s–1920s).
Crucibles like this were essential tools in metal refining and casting, and this particular piece carries the presence and intensity of a vessel that has endured fierce heat over and over again. It is made from refractory clay, capable of withstanding extremely high temperatures, and still retains its powerful form to this day.
A crucible is a container used for melting metals and ores, and has been employed by Japanese foundry workers and blacksmiths for centuries. On its surface remain traces of molten metal, ash, and slag—layered in hues of black-brown, grey, and at times metallic shine. These accidental yet beautiful marks create a surface that resembles an abstract painting born from fire and time.
This particular piece is in remarkably good condition, with no cracks or missing parts. The bold silhouette from rim to base, paired with its rugged texture, offers a different aesthetic depending on the viewing angle. Its raw yet refined presence is a true embodiment of wabi-sabi—the Japanese appreciation for imperfection and impermanence.
Though once a purely functional tool, this crucible can now be appreciated as a sculptural object or even used as a vessel or flower holder. Inserted branches can evoke a sense of grounded strength, while simply placing it as is transforms the piece into a commanding artwork. The fusion of industrial texture and natural form allows it to enhance any space—whether Japanese, Western, or modern minimal.

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
