About the Item
Extraordinary Japanese contemporary hand-glazed decorative porcelain vase in vivid turquoise and wine red, a signed masterpiece by widely respected award-winning master porcelain artist in "Yohen" technique of the Imari-Arita region of Japan. In this stunning piece the handsomely proportioned bulbous vase features horizontal bands that encircle the body showcasing the artist’s signature colors of turquoise and wine red. This artist is the recipient of countless prestigious awards for his extraordinary work and his contributions to this centuries old art. One of his most notable signature gradation patterns is referred to as the “galaxy,” where the alchemy of the kiln produces the effect of millions of stars glowing faintly in distant skies.
This artist is a master of the yohen technique, roughly translated as “alchemy of the kiln,” in which minute variations in closely-guarded glaze recipes and kiln temperatures produce a unique palette of hues and patterns manifested in subtle but awe-inspiring gradations of color. The beautiful gradations that the artist creates are the result of layers of glazes that fuse together in the kiln. The artist combines a number of techniques for applying the glaze, including dipping, painting and spraying. His profile is available upon request.
This mesmerizing decorative porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case with the artist’s signature.

- Japanese Porcelain Dragon Glazed Vase Mazuku KozanBy Makuzu KozanLocated in Atlanta, GAA porcelain vase with dragon motif by Japanese imperial potter Makuzu Kozan (1842-1916), circa 1900s. The vase is made in what is considered early phase of his underglaze period during late Meiji era. In a classic elongated baluster form, the surface of the vase was decorated in an unusual pink mist on a white and aubergine background (called Morotai, the Hazy style), on which a flying dragon is showcased on the center. The dragon was outlined in iron red and filled with the aubergine color and was artistically emphasized on its bulging eyes, claws, scales and a long tail. It was the sole focus of the design circumventing the entire body of the vase. The imagery calls in mind the dragon decoration found in Korean...Category
