Large Hand-Painted Sèvres-Style Bleu Céleste Porcelain Vase, France, circa 1880
A large and decorative late 19th-century Sèvres-style porcelain vase, finely hand-painted with romantic courtly scenes and floral reserves. Executed in rich bleu céleste ground with finely tooled parcel gilt highlights, the front features a portrait of an elegant lady in 18th-century attire, framed by elaborate gilded cartouches. Further panels of floral bouquets appear on the reverse and sides.
Of baluster form with pedestal base, the vase is marked to the underside with a pseudo-Sèvres interlaced ‘L’ mark in underglaze blue, typical of French or Dresden productions emulating the Sèvres style during the late 19th century.
Provenance: Private English collection
Condition: Structurally sound. Some surface wear to gilding and old restoration to the base (as shown).
