About the Item

A Limoges amphora-style solifleur vase dated 1853, with deep navy blue glaze and gold enamel detailing, featuring the iconic Salamander of Château de Chambord. This elegant vase, created by the artist M. Redon, is a tribute to King Francis I and French royal symbolism. The front displays the crowned salamander motif—"Nutrisco et Extinguo" ("I nourish the good fire and extinguish the bad")—the personal emblem of Francis I and a key symbol of the Château de Chambord. The reverse side is equally striking, with a gold fleur-de-lis crowned by the royal diadem, evoking the lineage and grandeur of the French monarchy. The cobalt blue glaze contrasts beautifully with the hand-applied gilding, and the amphora shape is adorned with twin handles and a slightly flared neck with a rich, decorative gold border.
