About the Item

A silver vase rested on three stylized legs, decorate with two classical rings surrounding the lower and upper parts. What makes this vase unique however, is the mark that appears at its bottom and which designates the name of its Jewish owner S. Levy and its hometown of Riga, alongside the Star of David. It is possible that the mark was made during the German occupation of Poland in reaction to the Jewish persecution and looting of property; the owner of this vase, like many others, might have marked it in the hope to retrieve it one day. An identical vase can be found in the Israel Museum of art in Jerusalem; as can be seen in the pictures, the vase appeared in a catalogue published by the museum in 1979, and which showcases silver items used in Jewish homes. Every item in Menorah Galleries is accompanied by a lifetime “Certificate of Authenticity” and additional documentation and information regarding the individual artifact and its culture.
