About the Item
Mid-Century Modern Fat Lava Drip Glaze Ceramic Vase, West Germany, 1970s
The base is moulded with the words ‘W.GERMANY’ and the model number 414-16. All the vases with the same model number manufactured at Scheurich have the same dimensions, but have many types of glazing and patterns.
Strong colors and lava-type glazes were typical for Scheurich during the 1960-70’s. this ceramic vase from W. Germany, model 414-16, is a mesmerizing piece of artistry that captivates the eye with its hypnotic glaze.
The vase features a rich dark brown glossy glaze with varying nuances of brown, creating depth and dimension. Overlying this base glaze is a cream white thick glaze adorned with turquoise blue pigments, cascading down from the top of the vase to about two-thirds or more. The interplay of these glazes results in a diluted lighter brown hue on top, transitioning into a striking blend of white, turquoise, and brown in the middle. The delineation where the cream white glaze ceases to flow creates a decorative frontier that can be distinctly felt by hand.
Completing the composition, the lower portion of the vase showcases the first darker glaze with splashes and drops of cream white, adding visual interest and texture.
With its handle adding a practical and aesthetic touch, this vase is not just a functional piece but also a work of art that one can admire for a very long time.
