Murano IVR Mazzega White Blue Green Ribbons Italian Art Glass Fazzoletto Vase
About the Item
Beautiful vintage Murano hand blown green, blue, copper and white ribbons Italian art glass handkerchief / fazzoletto vase. The vase has an original "Murano I.V.R." label in black and silver, with a dove in front of 3 vases. The very unusual design has applied Zanfirico net ribbons design at the top, and the body consisting of blue and green alternating transparent swirling ribbons. The colors on the pattern are divided by glittery copper aventurine ribbons. There is a flashed or iridescent surface on the vase. It is slight, but can be seen more on the dark background photos. Would make a great display piece on any console table, credenza or dresser. Mid-century era. Measures 10" long x 9" wide x 6 1/4" tall.
Some information on the company:
According to my research, the IVR company was started in the 1930's and sold to Aureliano Toso in 1937. Later it changed hands again to become F.lli Mazzega, and after the World War II, the factory was renamed I.V.R. Mazzega. Between that time and 1983 (when it ended) the company mostly produced items on order, especially for the Fucina degli Angeli firm, and from many important glass makers of the time. Some of them are designers Ermanno Nason, Fulvio Bianconi, Carlo Scarpa, and even Pablo Picasso and Gio Ponti.

The origins of Vetreria Mazzega date back to 1929, when Romano Mazzega established a small company in Murano that bore his name. The factory, whose history is little known, seems to have produced pieces of high quality, but mostly inspired by the work of its competitors. In 1937 Romano Mazzega's house was sold to Aureliano Toso, who renamed it Vetri Decorativi Rag. Aureliano Toso. The following year Romano Mazzega opened a new glassworks, Fratelli Mazzega, in collaboration with his brother Gino and sister Maria. The company took the name IVR (Industrie Vetrarie Riunite) Mazzega, around 1950.
Since 1954 the company has collaborated with Fucina degli Angeli, an artists' cooperative founded in 1950 in Murano. It thus produces pieces created by internationally renowned artists, such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Jean Cocteau and Georges Braque.
