About the Item

Wonderfully modern clear blown glass vase with boxed dash and three dots by Nadine Saylor (American, 20th Century), 2004. Signed and dated on bottom. Condition: Excellent. Measures 10.5"H x 10.5"W x 4"W. Saylor earned her BFA in photography from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and her MFA in glass from Alfred University. After graduating in 2007, Saylor taught glassblowing and casting classes at Alfred. She has taught at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and at Harrisburg Area Community College in Pennsylvania, prior to becoming a lecturer in glass at Southern Illinois University. She has taught workshops at The Studio at The Corning Museum of Glass, Harbourfront Center in Toronto, Penland School of Crafts, and the Pittsburgh Glass Center. She has won many awards as an artist including Glass Artist of the Year in Cincinnati, and was a finalist for the Niche Award in Philadelphia. Her work has been published in Ohio Magazine, The Urban Glass Art Quarterly, and The Glass Art Society Journal. Nadine Saylor’s work investigates the rise and fall of the American economy while preserving its history in glass. “I like to think of my work as a time capsule that begins with a photograph or an antique,” Saylor explains. “I then transform it into a larger-than-life glass icon.” Her work is a recollection of the past, bringing attention to how we have changed as humans and how much technology has transformed our lives, and incorporates projections, installations, casting, and sandblasting.
