About the Item
Nanbu, Japan Cast Iron Ikebana Footed Vase / Planter ca 1950s/60s
Nanbu is an area of Japan that is famous for making quality cast iron products, including teapots and other housewares. This design is quite desirable as it shares a visual kinship with the designs of Isamu Noguchi. Many people attribute this design as his, although I have never seen any proof to that effect. In any case, this is a stunning example of modernism that can be used as ikebana (flower arrangement), as intended, or can be used as a container for fruit and other items such as keys, coins etc as a catch-all on your entry foyer.
This item is unmarked but does come with its original box with interior tissue paper as well as a printed enclosure.
Note that the image shown with the flower arrangement is from a vintage Japanese catalog of a similar ikebana.
Measures 10-1/8" wide, 4-3/8' deep, 4" high.

Victoria Littlejohn California Pottery Notched Ceramic Bowl, ca 1960s
Bowl measures 7” diameter at base, 8-1/4” diameter at rim, and 3-1/4” high.
Signed Littlejohn 472 on base.
There is one pinprick glaze nick or skip, possibly from production. This bowl is highly carved so it's very difficult to see or notice. One "tooth" on the edge may have an older repair, it's difficult to tell but we've added several images and priced accordingly. See photos for details.
