About the Item

A good expo vase, designed by Olle Alberius, made in 1973 at the Orrefors Glaswork in Sweden. This heavily cased piece is featuring an optical effect. The base has an inserted opaque orange circular glass layer. Between the multiple layers of clear glass there are three black glass canes spinning around the backside of the vessel. On the front the surface has been cut and polished to a lens like indentation. Looking through that lens the decorations gets smaller but sharper and is in focus on the orange and black glass parts. This is a good example, a few hints about the Expo glasses at Orrefors can be found in "Glas in Sweden 1915-1960", Helmut Ricke and Ullrich Gronert, Prestel, München, 1986. The vase is signed, numbered and dated and still has the original label attached.
