About the Item

Painted and glazed terracotta vase signed Renzo IGNE ORIGIN Italy PERIOD 70s / 80s AUTHOR Renzo IGNE Born in Gaiarine, in the province of Treviso in 1940 Renzo Igne, sculptor and painter, as a teenager moved to Castellamonte (To) where he attended the local art school 'Felice Faccio' and where he completed his training as a student of Victor Cerrato in Turin. In the 1960s he returned to Castellamonte and opened his own furnace together with his wife Maria Morandini, devoting himself to teaching. A short time later he opens a shop in Turin, la Muffola, where he sells his products. In 1977 he graduated in architecture at the Milan Polytechnic. In the early eighties he worked in his studio in via Torino 60 in Castellamonte where he created one-of-a-kind pieces and small series of figurative sculpture, often with sacred subjects, and abstract material compositions, modeled by hand or by impression in a plaster mold and fired in an electric oven at low and high temperatures. In his artistic career he participates in numerous editions of the Faenza Prize and in the annual ceramics exhibitions of Castellamonte. Italy, early twentieth century Origin Italy Period Early twentieth century Brand ALBA DOCILIA In 1919 the Albanian Adolfo Rossello, in partnership with a group of financiers, Eng. Guglielmo Camogli, the honorable Michelino Poggi, the lawyer Costantino Barile and Andrea Seitun, returns to his hometown and opens an artisan ceramic factory called 'Alba Docilia', the ancient Roman name of Albisola. In 1922 the 'Alba Docilia', directed at the time by the Roman painter Mario Gambetta, won a medal at the Diano Marina Exhibition and since 1923 has regularly participated in the Milan Trade Fair. In 1923 the factory was transformed into a cooperative company and the following year Adolfo Rossello and his children Angela Teresa, Vittorina, Francesco Adolfo and Pietro became the sole owners. In 1925 the factory took part in the 2nd Monza Biennale. In 1928 the company is present at the Artisan Exhibition of Savona and participates in the Exhibition of Artisan Products of the Albisolese Week of 1933 and '34. Also in 1934, the manufacture's production was presented at the exhibitions in Tripoli, Leipzig and Vienna. In 1938 he was present at the Ligurian Ceramics Exhibition in Rome and at the Florence Handicraft Fair, which he also participated in in 1956 and 1958.
