About the Item
Exquisitely crafted by renowned ceramist Ingrid Atterberg for Uppsala Ekeby, this black, white and grey chamotte vase with a distinctive handle and rough surface epitomizes mid-century Scandinavian modern design.
Ingrid Atterberg (1920–2008) designed many classic pieces for Upsala-Ekeby between the 1940s and 1960s. One of her most well-known series is "Progresso," created in 1958. This collection consists of eight earthenware items, including vases and bowls, characterized by their textured surfaces and rustic appearance. Each piece is deeply stamped on the underside with "UE," "Sweden," "Abg," and the model number. The "Progresso" series was produced until 1959.
The vase has the shape of a classical urn and a swelling shape with a unique hand-decorated finish, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
Standing at a height of 16 cm, this vase model, numbered 2358, to Upsala-Ekeby's era-typical craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibility. Marked with a deep stamp indicating UE Sweden, 2358, and Abg.
Marked with the impressions UE Sweden, product numbers, and Abg, each piece bears the hallmark of Atterberg's distinctive style and craftsmanship.
About Ingrid Atterberg:
Ingrid Atterberg, born on May 11, 1920, in Härnösand, Sweden, and passed away on March 27, 2008, in Uppsala, was a celebrated Swedish ceramist closely associated with Upsala-Ekeby. In 1969, she ventured to establish her own ceramics workshop in Uppsala, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable craftsmanship and innovative mid-century modern designs.
About Upsala Ekeby:
