Slender Ceramic Sculptural Vase Hand-Painted Third-Fire Platinum Luster, Italy

About the Item

Sculptural ceramic vase with a slender shape, handmade in Italy and decorated with precious platinum lustre, the luster process requires three firings of the vase. Dimensions: D 28 cm, H 60 cm. 100% Handmade in Italy. The vase draws inspiration from one of the most characteristic products of luster ceramics of the Italian sixteenth century: the "coppe abborchiate" which were embellished with gold and ruby to obtain unique and incomparable reflections. Today Gabriele Mengoni artist, sculptor, expert ceramist, fascinated by this rediscovered technique, experiments with new forms and modern decorations for deBlona. Each object is entirely hand forged, then it is studded and subjected to the first firing of 1100°. A bath of shiny crystalline accompanies the product to the second firing at 920° followed by the brush application of platinum which will give all its splendor after the last firing at 760°. The reflection obtained is attenuated by patinating the piece with cooked oil cleaned with a woolen cloth and ash. All the various phases of the work are rigorously done by hand giving uniqueness to each single object. The beauty of a deBlona majolica is determined by the ancient process, unchanged over time and handmade, which we observe to the letter in the creation of our artworks: painting ceramics is a very complex, fascinating and insidious art, but it is precisely the human and imperfect sign that makes every piece so characteristic and totally unique. deBlona's essence is represented by the interpretation of the color and by an unrepeatable taste, with which we want to give new chromatic emotions.
