Small Chinese Porcelain Vase, Mille Fleur Decoration c.1950s
About the Item
A small porcelain baluster vase, handcrafted in China during the mid-20th century, specifically between the 1950s and 1960s
Finely decorated and displaying a vibrant scene of flowers nestled against a contrasting bed of lush green foliage. Bright pinks, deep reds, and yellows illustrate peonies, chrysanthemums, and roses, all expressively painted and highlighted with brush strokes of gleaming gold gilt. This beautiful piece exemplifies the Chinese ‘Mille Fleur’ style, or 'Thousand Flowers.'
This colourful and floral porcelain style originated in the late 18th century during the Yongzheng period. Gaining popularity during the Qianlong reign, the style symbolises 'all the flowers bestow their blessings.' Over the years, it has evolved from small, dense floral patterns to bolder and more expressive designs.
The vase remains in very good condition for its age, showing only minor wear to its glaze and gold gilt elements."
