About the Item

Originally designed in the 1930s by noted Milanese architect and designer Tomaso Buzzi, this stunning example is from a limited-edition 1990s reissue by Venini, one of Murano’s most storied glassworks. Crafted using the sophisticated “incamiciato” technique, this hand-blown vase features a deeply saturated British racing green exterior with a contrasting milky white interior—a visual tension that exemplifies Buzzi’s refined take on neoclassical modernism. The form is both architectural and fluid, with subtle proportions and a gracefully flared rim. The base is finished with a small, elegant black pasta glass foot, grounding the vessel with a visual punctuation that references classical glass forms. The piece is etched with the Venini signature and date on the underside, and it retains the original Venini label. This form is documented in the definitive monograph Tomaso Buzzi at Venini (Skira, 2014), specifically on pages 116, 150, and 151, and is featured in nearly every important publication on Venini’s 20th-century output. Buzzi’s brief but brilliant tenure at Venini (1932–1934) marked a pivotal moment in the company’s evolution, infusing the firm’s modernist identity with a sense of historical continuity and poetic subtlety. A rare and scholarly collectible—where architecture meets glassmaking in pure Italian elegance.
