Vase in Earthenware, Portuguese Faience from Alcobaça
About the Item
Alcobaça earthenware vase. Flared at the base and with a long narrow neck that opens slightly at the top. The background is white, with a floral pattern painted in shades of blue, orange and green. The flowers are outlined in dark blue and filled with soft colours. The glaze has visible craquelé, a sign of the piece's ageing.
The base and neck are finished with a blue frieze. This type of vase was used for flowers, but also as a decorative object in Portuguese homes.
Alcobaça faience is known for its floral motifs and cheerful style and this piece shows the artisanal tradition of Portuguese ceramics and can be used as decoration or as a collection.
