About the Item

Very large antique French Sèvres style porcelain vase French, Late 19th Century Height 154cm, diameter 41cm This fantastic vase is the work of J. Pascault, a famed porcelain artist of the late 19th Century who specialised in the production of Sevres-style pieces. It is beautifully executed, and especially impressive given its large size of one and a half metres (almost 5 feet) in height. The vase is tall and slender in shape, set on a gilt bronze plinth, and surmounted by a cover with a pinecone finial. Its ovoid body is decorated around its exterior in the Rococo taste: showing a female figure and winged putti in a landscape to the front, and a landscape scene to the reverse. The neck, cover and socle are painted in the classic Sevres blue, and there are gilt highlights all over the vase which take the form of Rococo-style shells and scrolls. There is a signature for 'J. Pascault' on the cartouche and a blue interlaced-L mark for Sèvres on the underside of the lid.
