William Bateman I Antique English Sterling Silver Snuffer / Pen Tray

An excellent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver snuffer/pen tray made by William Bateman I; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique George III sterling silver snuffer tray has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners. The surface of this fine example of antique silverware is plain and unembellished. The raised rounded border is embellished with an impressive vertebrate band of stylized floral, bud and foliate ornamentation, all on a matte background. The rim of the tray is encompassed with an exceptional applied gadroon decorated border accented with a floral motif to either side and a scrolling leaf decorated design to each corner. The underside of this impressive Georgian snuffer tray bears the silversmith's centre punch mark in addition to the full hallmarks pertaining to the renowned London silversmith William Bateman I. Condition This antique silver candle snuffer tray is an exceptional gauge of silver for its type, excellent quality and in excellent presentation condition in keeping with age. The chased and applied decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the surface are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware. An excellent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver candle snuffer / pen tray; an addition to our 18th century silverware collection. This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver candle snuffer tray has a navette shaped form. The surface of this antique silver snuffer/pen tray is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a centaur regardant holding and arrow on a bended bow, above the bright cut engraved initials 'WIL'. The outer circumference of the surface is encompassed with an undulating wriggle work decorated border. The raised rounded sides of the tray are embellished with pierced decorated urn designs conjoined by suspended bright cut engraved festoon ornamentation further accented with undulating pin struck decoration. The tray is further embellished with an applied bead decorated border to the rim. Either end of the tray incorporates an impressive pierced and applied scrolling leaf decorated handle accented with a pendant drop design to the inner surface. This exceptional tray was crafted by the London silversmith William Plummer who is known for his work with pierced decoration. An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare set of five antique Georgian English sterling silver bottle labels or tickets made by Hester Bateman, part of our wine related silverware collection These exceptional and collectable George III sterling silver bottle labels have a neoclassical urn shaped form. These antique silver labels or tickets are further ornamented with a bright cut engraved and pin struck ribbon bow designs accented with suspended leaf festoons. The body of each label is engraved with the individual wine or spirit: 'Port', 'Geneva', 'Claret', 'Rum' and 'Madeira'. These Georgian silver bottle labels are suspended by two ring loops to the corners of the urn designs and connected by silver round link chains.
