About the Item
The perfect addition to a wine room or kitchen, this cast iron wine corking machine was produced circa 1900. Known in France as a bouchonneuse, the corker would have been used to seal wine bottles before the advent of mass production methods. Our model stands 27 inches tall and would have been positioned on the floor during use.
Most of the functional bouchonneuse is made from durable cast iron, except for two wooden handles. The bottom lever raises and lowers the plate that applies pressure to the cork, which is controlled by the upper lever. Our cast iron French bouchonneuse has a scrolled corbel on the back, making it a unique wine accessory that will be a topic of conversation when entertaining guests.
