About the Item

This modernist looking Art Deco cocktail shaker is silver plated with a bakelite cap. Clean lines, asymmetrical composition and elegant engraved lines at the base are the selling point of this item. It is an iconic piece that will make a tasteful decorative object. It is in good condition and relatively lightweight which makes it still fully usable as a shaker nearly 90 years after its creation. The shaker is stamped. Folke Aström (1907-1997) was a Swedish designer specialised in tableware. He is known for introducing stainless steel as a material for everyday cutlery in times where it was not yet common use. He succeeded in implementing the practice that by presenting elegant and beautiful designs for forks, spoons and knives. He worked as a designer for GAB from 1935 to 1940 after which he became director of Gense in Eskilstuna. This shaker is a beautiful artefact from a short but very creative period. His work is part of several important museums such as the Swedish National Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

1930s Napier Silver-Plate Cocktail Shaker Designed by Emil Schuelke
By Emil Schuelke
Located in Minneapolis, MN
Here is a hard-to-find modernist silver-plate cocktail shaker designer by Emil Schuelke in the mid-1930s and made by Napier Company of Meriden, Connecticut. The cone-shaped shaker consists of two pieces--the top can be used for measuring ingredients. This example is in good condition--there are no deep scratches or dents. There some silver losses on the body and top of the shaker and the inside strainer has loss as well. You can tell the shaker has been used--there is wear to the interior. We've included several photos which represent the condition well. But all in all, this shaker presents nicely and would make a great addition to any bar or cocktail shaker collection. From Wikipedia: "Napier silver designs from the first half of the 20th century are in museum collections including the Brooklyn Museum, Newark Museum and a substantial collection at the Dallas Museum of Art. Over the years, Napier silver has been featured in museum exhibitions, including Modernism in American Silver: 20th Century Design at the Smithsonian in Washington, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Wolfsonian in Miami Beach, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN (2005–07). Napier designs have also been included in two shows at the Brooklyn Museum, entitled 19th century Modern (2011–12; 2013–15). In November 2016-November 2017, the iconic Napier penguin cocktail shaker...
