About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of contemporary sterling silver African animal themed coasters made by Patrick Mavos; an addition to our range of collectable silverware. These exceptional contemporary cast sterling silver wine coasters have a circular rounded shaped form. The body of each coaster is embellished with an exceptional array of conjoined hippopotamus designs*, ranging in stances; the interior surface of this animal themed border bears details enhancing the anatomical features. These exceptional examples of animal related silverware retain the original fabric covering to the underside. The hallmarks struck to the rim of these coasters include: Maker's mark: PM (Patrick Mavos). Maker's mark: Sable antelope head within a triangle (sterling). Date letter: b, 2000 Patrick Mavos describes a hippopotamus as Africa's 'river horses' which are the very picture of peace and contentment. This brand has over forty years of experience creating high quality African inspired, family designs and unique heirlooms. The antelope fineness mark was original awarded to what is now Zimbabwe in 1923, however the maker's mark and date letter pertain to London where the maker is registered with the assay office. Condition These silver coasters are a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these silver wine coasters, animal theme. Dimensions: Length 12.5 cm / 4.9" Width 11.2 cm / 4.4" Height 4.1 cm / 1.6".
