About the Item

A stunning ice bucket designed by Mauro Manetti, originating from Italy in the vibrant era of the 1970s. This exceptional piece, shaped like a pineapple, showcases the creative brilliance of Mauro Manetti and was meticulously crafted for the renowned Fonderia D'Arte foundry in Florence, Italy. Crafted from silvered pewter, this ice bucket is not merely a functional item but a true work of art, reflecting the seamless fusion of form and function. The discerning eye will appreciate the intricate details and precision that went into the creation of this masterpiece, a testament to Manetti's artistic vision and the skilled craftsmanship of the Fonderia D'Arte foundry. Stamped to the underside. Mauro Manetti, the visionary Italian designer, has left an indelible mark on the world of art and design, particularly during the vibrant 1970s. Renowned for his innovative and avant-garde creations, Manetti's work often transcends traditional boundaries, embracing a harmonious blend of form and function. Notably associated with the Fonderia D'Arte foundry in Florence, Italy, Manetti's designs, such as the iconic pineapple-shaped ice bucket, exemplify his commitment to pushing artistic boundaries. His creations are celebrated for their meticulous craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a distinctive aesthetic that seamlessly incorporates elements of luxury and whimsy. Today, Mauro Manetti's legacy endures as his designs continue to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike, reflecting the enduring influence of an artist who dared to redefine the conventions of his time. Coveted for centuries by kings for its scarcity and stately appearance, and lusted after for its unadulterated meat, the pineapple became a worldwide obsession at the beginning of the 16th century. Europe’s royal houses paid thousands in today’s money for just one fruit to put on display as the centrepiece at their tables. It was the ultimate symbol of wealth and was christened the “King of Fruit”. It became a shameless emblem of the financial and social inequality between the classes throughout Europe at the height of the tropical fruit’s obsession. However, the fledgling nations of the west would eventually help bring the pineapple back down to earth and soften its image to that of warm welcomes, celebration and hospitality which is why they can be seen in all sorts of Georgian and Victorian architecture; its appeal and symbolism still with us today.
