About the Item

Early 20th Century Art Deco Streamline Cream Covered Serving Bowl This elegant early 20th century Art Deco covered serving bowl exemplifies the streamline moderne aesthetic, with its dramatically flared silhouette, sculptural geometry, and clean, modern lines. Crafted in a rich cream glaze, the form expands from a footed base, fanning outward with striking symmetry. The angular, curved handles jut out before sharply turning inward at a precise 90-degree angle—an architectural touch that adds both function and flair. The lid is a standout feature, shaped as a perfect square and topped with a sleek, minimalist finial that evokes a geometric abstraction of a boat or vessel. This subtle nautical reference is in keeping with the machine-age inspirations of streamline design, popular in the 1930s and 1940s. Though unmarked, the bowl was clearly produced with attention to design and proportion, reflecting the era’s Art Deco focus on both beauty and utility. It is in overall good vintage condition with age-appropriate crazing throughout and a faint hairline crack in the glaze at one corner of the lid. The base shows light shelf wear, and there are a few small darkened marks along the upper rim, which do not detract from its bold presentation. An excellent display or serving piece, this streamlined Art Deco ceramic bowl would elevate any vintage dining collection or design-conscious interior. Perfect for collectors of Art Deco pottery, ceramic serveware, or early 20th century American and European decorative arts.
