Italian 19th Century Terracotta Passata Bowl

About the Item

A painterly passata bowl from the Puglia region of Italy, 19th century. The large terracotta bowl features a glaze in spongeware effect of bright green over a buttery yellow slip on the inside and is undecorated on the exterior. This vessel would have been used in peak tomato season to make fresh tomato sauce at quantity. In charming antique condition, a conversation piece to display or use for light duty storage. Evidence of five holes being drilled into the base (since patched), please view the detailed images to see the current condition.
