Johnny Mattsson, Wooden Sculpture / Bowl, Scandinavian Modern

About the Item

John (Johnny) Filip Mattsson, born 1906 in the city of Gävle, Sweden. Died in 1970. Mattsson was mostly know for his wooden sculptures / Ölgås, seen in SAS commercials. Parts of his work were shown at Triennale in Milan 1954, Florence 1954 an New York 1955. He is represented in museums such as Nationalmuseum, Stockholm and British Museum, London (bowl & sculpture). This beautiful example of his slender, sculpture bowls is signed JM with a paper tag: Johnny Mattson, Sweden. Three wooden pieces are perfectly placed so the wood grains create a decorative pattern. Nice patina. Few smaller dents and scratches. No structural damages.
