Antique Thomas Latham and Ernest Morton Sterling Silver Epergne

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver epergne; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This exceptional antique George V sterling silver epergne has a plain, tapering conical form with a flared rim onto circular spreading base. This antique silver epergne/centrepiece is comprised of a central scrolling frame accented with three sterling silver scrolling arms; the central support and the arms terminate with circular receivers. The main holder and each of the three circular receivers retain the original hallmarked circular tapering flutes; the central flute is larger than the supporting three. The rims of these antique vessels are encompassed with an impressive applied gadroon decorated border to the rim. The flutes are further ornamented with drop style terminals. Condition This antique sterling silver epergne is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each component has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the foot and part hallmarks to each flute are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. The lower bulbous portion of body is encircled with chased fluted ornamentation. Either side of the plain upper portion of the body of this cup is embellished with an exceptional and large applied ribbon tied laurel branch wreath, replicating the border of a Classic cartouche. This impressive presentation cup retains the original hallmarked cover surmounted with an exceptional, Fine and impressive sterling silver overlapping leaf, bead and bud style finial. The rim of the cover is encompassed with an impressive applied egg and dart decorated border. This antique cup and cover is fitted with two very impressive handles modelled in the form of conjoined snakes, above a figural mask and Caduceus*. This fine antique George V sterling silver centerpiece has a circular rounded paneled form with an octagonal tapering pedestal and knop to a circular paneled spreading foot.
