Elegant 19th Century English Parian Porcelain Centerpiece

About the Item

This is an outstanding and elegant centerpiece bowl made by Minton in the Victorian period about 1880s. The centerpiece is made up of a reticulated bowl, spine and a base. The Minton's famous parian porcelain produced this centerpiece which is smooth and beautifully modeled and is pure white. The top part of the centerpiece consists of a reticulated and pierced bowl in the form of a woven basket, glazed inside in pure white. The bowl sits on a vine of grapes and its leaf which continues around and rests just above the heads of the Putti. The stem or spine of the centerpiece is surrounded by three unglazed white Parian Putti standing on the base decorated in flowers and wheat. The base which features branches of buds stands on three legs turned outwardly but the ends of the legs are curled inwards. This item is unmarked, which is not uncommon for the period. This design was introduced around 1880s. Minton was one of the pioneers of English china production alongside other great potters such as Spode, Coalport and others. They were located in Staffordshire and were known specifically for their wonderfully fine white bone china. Minton produced the finest British porcelain, often thanks to the fact that they sourced some of their best artists from the French Sevres factory. Minton supplied huge quantities of tablewares, tiles, and other items to the USA in the 19th century. The White House was traditionally supplied with Minton porcelian and many great buildings of of this period were decorated with Minton tiles. This centerpiece would make a fabulous display on your table or mantelpiece filled with fruits or sweets.

Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Very minor losses, one tiny flower petal, one tiny part of a doves wing and one tiny part of branch one putti is holding, all hardly noticeable.
