About the Item
This is a "statement making" oversized (22" diameter), highly decorated bowl; hand painted; entirely hand crafted, and then fired in a kiln. It is made, circa 1995, by long standing three generation prestigious porcelain and ceramic maker "Giacomini" of Orvieto, Italy which is located in the central part of the country.
In addition to the rural Italian countryside scenery, a young man can be seen standing in a large barrel while stomping grapes, as another wine maker pours harvested grapes into a container, while a woman is pictured preparing the next bucket as two working cows look on. The perimeter of the bowl is beautifully decorated with purple hand painted grapes, and colorful green leaves and vines. The underneath is appropriately marked "Giacomini Orvieto Ceramiche", while the artist’s initials "MA" appear signed in the lower mid center on the face of the bowl (see close up images).
The bowl is in excellent and completely all original condition with no chips, repairs, or touch ups of any kind. It is rare to have this larger size bowl because of the likelihood of it being mishandled and damaged, either in use, cleaning, or transit.
It's dimensions make it very suitable as a centerpiece by virtue of its appearance, quality, or/and the large size (see the proportions in images with this listing, where I have placed it on a 10 foot long by 40” wide dining room table; along with a larger size red wine glass, a white wine glass, and a banana).
The thematic wine making scenes make this the perfect decor for the dining room table centerpiece; entryway table, or simply fill it with grapes and use it in your wine cellar while enjoying a glass of wine. If one would like to display it on the wall, provisions are made by virtue of two manufactured pre-made holes for it to hang.
Dimensions: 22" diameter x 3 3/4" high
Provenance: Recently acquired from a prominent San Francisco estate

Victorian Porcelain Spittoon, circa 1880 by Imari, Japan
Located in Incline Village, NV
The mark on the underneath (see image) indicates that this spittoon is of Japanese Imari porcelain, manufactured circa 1880, and made specifically for the American market for the preponderance of bars and saloons at that time.
These were popular from 1865 to the turn of the century; this is a particularly fancy and elaborate example. Note the copious and highly detailed and beautiful floral decoration to the inside of the upper portion of the spittoon; pretty fancy for something meant for spit and saliva!
Fantastic and all original condition with no cracks, no chips and very bright paint in sharp colors of blue rust and pink, and meticulously painted in a floral pattern. Several of these would have been “stationed” in strategic places within a saloon. This is a wonderful piece of porcelain, and quality item of saloon and Western United States history...
