Berndt Friberg, Stoneware Blue Bowl, Gustavsberg, Sweden, 1963

About the Item

Berndt Friberg, Stoneware Bowl with blue haresfur glaze, Gustavsberg, Sweden 1963 Impressed "Friberg" "G (hand) " Incised "E" The entire piece is covered with a deep, dark blue glaze, over which a double layer of brown glaze has been applied, blending in with each other and flowing beautifully. The inside of the bowl has a beautifully expressive Friberg color, and the outside is a dark blue with a slightly blackish tinge, which fades to a lighter blue as it reaches the base. The glaze has been wiped off at the mouth rim, creating a gradation of color, and a white wavy pattern appears at the mouth rim, creating a light effect that is not too heavy in the blue color. The glaze has a fine hairline and flows beautifully over the entire surface. The shape of the bowl is a soft triangular one when seen from the top, with a shallow prospect and a standard shallow bowl shape. The soft curves of the shape and the thin rim of the mouth are beautiful, and combined with the vivid lapis lazuli color, the bowl has a good appearance despite its small size. In good condition. The vessel has been examined by an expert by UV light and visual inspection to ensure that there are no repairs and that it is not twice kiln fired.

The glaze flows nicely both inside and out, and the glaze has a fine hairline. The rim has a nice gradation. The shape is that of a bowl with a regular circle rim, falling vertically from the rim and bending at the waist in the shape of a twilled bowl, a standard shape for Friberg's work.
