About the Item

Jean Marais (1913-1998) is best known for his acting career which made him world famous and gave him a mythical status as one of the great French actors. Also his relationship with Jean Cocteau is one of the great love stories of the 20th century. Perhaps less known is that he was a artist by nature. All his adult live he painted, sculpted and was a acclaimed ceramist. All these artforms interclined and produced a vocabulary in which soft and hard, geometric and round, feminin and masculin all balanced out in elegant shapes and forms. One might say the same qualities could be found in hios acting....
