About the Item
This is two English ironstone plates; one dinner plate by Davenport and one side plate by Mason's, both in the flying Bird gilded pattern.
Both plates are well potted and hand painted, probably over a blue printed outline, with enamels of different colors and shades. Additionally, the bird and central flower have hand-gilded highlights, which adds to the quality of the pieces.
The Dinner Plate is Davenport's Flying Bird pattern number 6 which is very similar to the Flying Bird pattern on the side plate by Mason as shown on various pieces on Page 227 of Godden's Guide to Ironstone & Granite Wears, by Geoffrey A Godden, published by The Antique Collectors' Club.
The Dinner Plate shows the Davenport blue printed stone-china mark dating to circa 1818 and the side plate has the Mason's blue printed crown mark dating to the late 19th century.
