About the Item
This is a rare first period (or Dr. Wall) Worcester Coffee Cup, with a distinctive hand painted pattern, made of porcelain and dating to the 18th century, circa 1770.
The cup is well potted with a grooved loop handle
This delightful early Worcester Cup, is finely hand painted in polychrome enamels in the Japanese style, with six alternating panels of individual floral sprays painted in puce, set between orange panels with a gilded diaper pattern and having a central "mons"/chrysanthemum flower painted to the inner base. Each panel is framed in iron red.
The cup is unmarked to the base as was often the case. There is an old collectors label to the base marked King Collection 208 which we have left on.
A similar cup is illustrated on page 5, Plate 30, in Michael Berthoud's book; A Compendium of British Cups, published by Micawber Publications.
Overall a very decorative finely painted piece of First Period Worcester porcelain.
