large ceramic bowl Marcel Guillot

About the Item

Marcel Guillot studied at the School of Applied Arts in Industry, where he became friends with Pierre Fouquet. He spent some time at the Manufacture de Sèvres, then opened his own workshop in Paris, starting with an electric kiln, a rare commodity at the time. He then moved to Saint-Maur-des-Fossés. After the war, he and Pol Chambost were responsible for organizing the first Salon des Céramistes d'Art de France in 1949 at La Maison de la Chimie, with 59 exhibitors. This show would become the Salon des Ateliers d'Art de France, and Marcel Guillot served as its president for a while, before Jacques Blin. He participated in numerous exhibitions for his ceramics as well as his painting. This large bowl is representative of the ceramics of midcentury modern period
