Largest and Mint Antique Delftware Porcelain Wall Tile Painting in Wooden Frame
Located in Lisse, NL
Stunning and largest ever single tile, Delft Blue wall painting in the 'Haagse School' style. This antique and largest ever, single Delftware tile holds both the art of painting and the art of making glazed ceramic tiles and the amazing result is an absolute joy to own and to look at. This serene, realistic and truly Dutch landscape scene was the typical subject matter of what later became known as the famous 'The Hague School Style'. The painting on this tile was done by one of the great artists that worked for only the best ceramic studios in those days and the original of this painting was created by one of the greats of the 'Haagse School', Louis Apol (1850-1936). It is for that reason that this unique size tile with painting also is signed 'naar L. Apol' which means 'after L. Apol'. We have attributed this one of a kind antique to 'De Porceleyne Fles', but this could also have been made by one of the other two of the top three ceramic studios / manufacturers of that era.
