About the Item

From The Cantagalli Pottery in Florence, Italy, a set of six hand painted reticulated earthenware plates, showing the Crowing Rooster mark used in the early 20th Century. Beautifully painted in the Renaissance Revival style with a six-part floral garland joined with bows, on a creamy white ground. The garland surrounds a central floral spray of a blue flower and green leaves. The reticulate edge is glazed in a yellow ochre fading to a pale green, and outlined in a burnt Sienna. The Cantagalli family operated their pottery works in Florence beginning in the 15th Century until the pottery closed its doors in 1985. 8.5 in. Diameter x .75 in. H Marked with the painted Rooster logo – some plates showing mold numbers as well. All plates are in good condition, one has a small loss to the rim on the back side, another with a teeny glaze slip on the front rim, as expected of faience - shown in the photos.
