About the Item

A beautifully etched porcelain cabinet plate featuring a famous painting by Adolphe Bouguereau, Circa 1887. This is a reproduction of a depiction of the Greek Myth of Cupid and Psyche. Acrylic stand not included. Of the Imperial Viennese period. Bouguereau was an avid traditionalist whose realistic paintings and mythological themes were modern interpretations of Classical subjects with an emphasis on the female human body. Each outlying circle in red includes a gilt iconographic narrative element of a story using animals and people. A wonderful and masterful tapestry of red, gold, and light rose colored patterns circles around the painted scene. The figures of Cupid and Psyche stand in contrast to a wonderfully atmospheric pastoral scene. The figures and scenes are excellently lighted and have appropriate visual contrast. There are a few markings on the back. The most visible mark is a number 13245. The other two marks are faded and illegible. In excellent condition. This would make a great feature in any dining room, living room, or kitchen. Measurements: width: 9.5" / 24.13 cm depth: 9.5" / 24.13 cm height: 1" / 2.54 cm.
